Morgan County, Indiana

Morgan County is a county located in the U.S. State of Indiana. As of 2000, the population is 66,689. The county's county seat is Martinsville, Indiana6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,060 km² (409 mi²). 1,053 km² (406 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.71% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 66,689 people, 24,437 households, and 19,036 families residing in the county. The population density is 63/km² (164/mi²). There are 25,908 housing units at an average density of 25/km² (64/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.59% White, 0.07% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 24,437 households out of which 36.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.20% are married couples living together, 8.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.10% are non-families. 18.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.06.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.20% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 30.60% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 10.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $47,739, and the median income for a family is $52,851. Males have a median income of $39,701 versus $26,311 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,657. 6.60% of the population and 5.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.30% are under the age of 18 and 9.90% are 65 or older.
