Montour County is a county located in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 18,236. Its county seat is Danville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 343 km² (132 mi²). 339 km² (131 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.17% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 18,236 people, 7,085 households, and 4,817 families residing in the county. The population density is 54/km² (140/mi²). There are 7,627 housing units at an average density of 23/km² (58/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.67% White, 1.01% African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,085 households out of which 30.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.30% are married couples living together, 8.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.00% are non-families. 28.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 6.40% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 17.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.00 males.
