Molly Malone is a fictitious woman, whose 'life story' is told in the unofficial
anthem of
Dublin City. According to the song, named
Molly Malone:
- In Dublin's fair city,
- where the girls are so pretty,
- I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone.
- As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
- through streets broad and narrow,
- crying cockles and muscles,
- alive-a-live-oh!
- A live-a-live-oh.
- A live-a-live-oh.
- Crying cockles and muscles,
- A live-a-live-oh.
Molly Malone is commemorated in a statue located at the bottom of Grafton Street in Dublin.
