Molecular mechanisms of memory

Memories are believed to be created in part by changes in the properties of particular synapses in the brain. Paired activity in two neurons that participate in a synapse leads to both the regulation of proteins and the synthesis of new proteins that affect the "strength" and other properties of the synapse.
