Mokoš

Mokoš, Mokosz (read: Mokosh), - goddess of Slav. pantheon, hypostasis of Goddess Earth (Russ. mat' syraja zemlja „mather - moist earth"); theonym (with sexual connotation: Russ dial. mokos'ja „a prostitute" - degradation of some elements of worship of fecundity?) with core “mok-“ compare to OldSlav. mok-rъ < *mok-r-os „wet". M. is performed as a woman - household spirit, with large head, spining wool by night (Russ. folklore). She was probably partner (or mother) of Thunderlord (Perun). see also: Perperuna .
