Micrometre

A micrometre (American: micrometer), symbol µm is an SI unit of length that is defined as one millionth of a metre (or 1×10-6m). µ is the Greek letter mu.

A synonym is micron, an old, non-SI name for the micrometre. The name micron, and its symbol µ, although officially discouraged, are still sometimes used in science and electronics.
