Michigan City is a city located in Nelson County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 345.

Geography Michigan City is located at 48°1'28" North, 98°7'19" West (48.024415, -98.121851)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and 1.82% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 345 people, 159 households, and 94 families residing in the city. The population density is 251.3/km² (645.7/mi²). There are 176 housing units at an average density of 128.2/km² (329.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.13% White, 0.29% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 159 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.3% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.3% are non-families. 38.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $32,054, and the median income for a family is $40,833. Males have a median income of $27,250 versus $16,875 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,034. 8.5% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.2% are under the age of 18 and 11.0% are 65 or older.
