Metropolitan Counties of England
The metropolitan counties of England were administrative units that covered large urban areas, each with several metropolitan districts. Their administrative bodies were disbanded in 1986, with the functions allocated to the individual districts.
The metropolitan counties were:
- Greater London
- Greater Manchester
- Merseyside
- South Yorkshire
- Tyne and Wear
- West Midlands
- West Yorkshire
