Menands, New York

Menands is a village located in Albany County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,910.

Geography Menands is located at 42°41'36" North, 73°43'37" West (42.693245, -73.727068)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²). 8.3 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.45% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,910 people, 1,906 households, and 968 families residing in the village. The population density is 473.2/km² (1,225.1/mi²). There are 2,073 housing units at an average density of 250.9/km² (649.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 83.76% White, 9.10% African American, 0.13% Native American, 4.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.95% from other races, and 1.71% from two or more races. 2.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,906 households out of which 20.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.5% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 49.2% are non-families. 43.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.00 and the average family size is 2.79.

In the village the population is spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $48,456, and the median income for a family is $62,083. Males have a median income of $42,905 versus $31,745 for females. The per capita income for the village is $36,288. 5.4% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.1% are under the age of 18 and 11.0% are 65 or older.
