MMU, short for Memory Management Unit, is a hardware component responsible for handling memory access requested by the CPU. Among the functions of this device are the translation of virtual addresses to physical addresses, memory protection, cache control and bus arbitration.


MMU is also an acronym meaning Manned Maneuvering Unit.

This is a jetpack (propulsion backpack that snaps onto the back of the spacesuit) which has been used on spacewalks (EVAs) from NASA's space shuttle, allowing an astronaut to move independently from the shuttle.
