Meadow Lake, New Mexico

Meadow Lake is a town located in Valencia County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,491.

Geography Meadow Lake is located at 34°48'14" North, 106°34'46" West (34.803959, -106.579522)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 25.0 km² (9.7 mi²). 25.0 km² (9.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.10% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,491 people, 1,339 households, and 1,084 families residing in the town. The population density is 179.7/km² (465.3/mi²). There are 1,543 housing units at an average density of 61.7/km² (159.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 54.02% White, 1.27% African American, 4.07% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 33.60% from other races, and 6.61% from two or more races. 57.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,339 households out of which 53.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% are married couples living together, 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% are non-families. 13.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.35 and the average family size is 3.67.

In the town the population is spread out with 38.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 27 years. For every 100 females there are 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,561, and the median income for a family is $27,296. Males have a median income of $23,598 versus $20,469 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,808. 24.4% of the population and 21.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 30.6% are under the age of 18 and 21.3% are 65 or older.
