McMinnville, Tennessee

McMinnville is a city located in Warren County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,749. It is the county seat of Warren County6.

Geography McMinnville is located at 35°41'12" North, 85°46'46" West (35.686708, -85.779309)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.9 km² (10.0 mi²). 25.9 km² (10.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,749 people, 5,419 households, and 3,332 families residing in the city. The population density is 491.7/km² (1,273.4/mi²). There are 5,961 housing units at an average density of 229.9/km² (595.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 88.42% White, 4.15% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.93% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.00% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 6.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,419 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.6% are married couples living together, 14.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% are non-families. 33.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $23,810, and the median income for a family is $32,759. Males have a median income of $28,474 versus $20,693 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,074. 24.6% of the population and 21.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 34.5% are under the age of 18 and 19.1% are 65 or older.
