McIntosh, South Dakota

McIntosh is a city located in Corson County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 217. It is the county seat of Corson County6.

Geography McIntosh is located at 45°55'18" North, 101°21'1" West (45.921649, -101.350171)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.12% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 217 people, 102 households, and 53 families residing in the city. The population density is 89.1/km² (232.0/mi²). There are 135 housing units at an average density of 55.5/km² (144.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 75.12% White, 0.00% African American, 20.74% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.30% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 102 households out of which 22.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 47.1% are non-families. 47.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 28.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,875, and the median income for a family is $39,063. Males have a median income of $27,500 versus $25,417 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,821. 10.6% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.2% are under the age of 18 and 20.5% are 65 or older.
