McConnelsville, Ohio

McConnelsville is a village located in Morgan County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,676. It is the county seat of Morgan County6.

Geography McConnelsville is located at 39°38'56" North, 81°51'7" West (39.648915, -81.851954)1. It is on the east bank of the Muskingum River, opposite Malta, Ohio.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²). 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.85% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,676 people, 805 households, and 445 families residing in the village. The population density is 367.7/km² (953.7/mi²). There are 881 housing units at an average density of 193.3/km² (501.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.70% White, 1.49% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 0.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 805 households out of which 25.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.6% are non-families. 42.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 26.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the village the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 77.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 70.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $25,563, and the median income for a family is $39,769. Males have a median income of $31,615 versus $19,537 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,818. 18.1% of the population and 13.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 27.0% are under the age of 18 and 14.4% are 65 or older.
