Geography Masonboro is located at 34°10'12" North, 77°52'16" West (34.169953, -77.871134)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 17.2 km² (6.6 mi²). 15.5 km² (6.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.65% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,812 people, 4,253 households, and 3,474 families residing in the town. The population density is 761.4/km² (1,970.5/mi²). There are 4,452 housing units at an average density of 287.0/km² (742.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 93.62% White, 3.35% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.32% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,253 households out of which 42.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.0% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% are non-families. 14.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.08.
