Marshall County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 30,125. Its county seat is Benton6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 881 km² (340 mi²). 790 km² (305 mi²) of it is land and 92 km² (35 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.41% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 30,125 people, 12,412 households, and 8,998 families residing in the county. The population density is 38/km² (99/mi²). There are 14,730 housing units at an average density of 19/km² (48/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.57% White, 0.12% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,412 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 7.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 25.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the county the population is spread out with 21.80% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 26.20% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 96.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $35,573, and the median income for a family is $43,670. Males have a median income of $36,673 versus $21,941 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,069. 9.50% of the population and 6.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.60% are under the age of 18 and 10.90% are 65 or older.
