The racial makeup of the city is 86.05% White, 7.40% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.34% Pacific Islander, 3.46% from other races, and 1.94% from two or more races. 7.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,732 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 31.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
