Marram grass

Marram grass is a species of perennial grass, used to prevent or stop erosion of dunes. It is a sand-binder and dune-builder and has shallow roots and a coarse, stiff structure.

There are three types of Marram grass:

  • North American Marram grass Ammophila breviligulata
  • English Marram grass Ammophila arenaria
  • Hybrid Marram grass Calammophila baltica - a hybrid from the first two.
