Maronite

Redirected from Maronites

Maronites are members of a certain Eastern Rite of the Catholic church. They trace their founding to St. John Maron and to St. Maron[?], while also claiming full apostolic succession through the See of Antioch.

Most Maronites live in Lebanon. There is also a Maronite community in Cyprus. In the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, many Maronites emigrated to Europe, North and South America, founding Maronite parishes in those locations as well. The head of the Maronite church is the Maronite Patriarch, who is appointed by the Pope.
