Markham (2001 population 208,615) is a city located directly north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Markham was first surveyed as a township in 1793, first settled (by the Germans) in 1794, and incorporated as a town in 1872.

Until urban sprawl[?] hit Markham in the 1960s, Markham remained a quiet farming community. Today, with many technological firms located there, the city calls itself "Canada's High-Tech Capital".

The Mayor of Markham is Donald Cousens[?].
