Marion County is a county located in the U.S. State of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 66,217. Its county seat is Marion6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,047 km² (404 mi²). 1,046 km² (404 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.07% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 66,217 people, 24,578 households, and 17,253 families residing in the county. The population density is 63/km² (164/mi²). There are 26,298 housing units at an average density of 25/km² (65/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.10% White, 5.75% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 24,578 households out of which 32.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.50% are married couples living together, 11.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.80% are non-families. 25.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 30.30% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 13.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 106.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,709, and the median income for a family is $45,297. Males have a median income of $33,179 versus $23,586 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,255. 9.70% of the population and 7.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.60% are under the age of 18 and 5.50% are 65 or older.
