Marie Bashir was born in Narrandera[?] in rural New South Wales. She was appointed in 1993 as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Sydney, and then became Governor of New South Wales in 2001. She is the first woman ever appointed New South Wales Governor and the first ever New South Wales Governor of Lebanese descent.
