Marc Antoine Charpentier (c. 1636 - 1704), composer.

Born in Paris, he went to Rome to study painting, but became the pupil of Carissimi on hearing his music. He later worked with Molière. His compositions include oratorios, masses and and operas.

The introduction of his Te Deum is very well-known as the signature tune for Eurovision, heard in the opening credits of the Vienna New Year's Concert and the Eurovision Song Contest.
