Marble Hill is the northernmost section of the borough of Manhattan in New York, New York. It is separated from the rest of Manhattan by the Harlem River Ship Canal[?], which was dug to connect two portions of the Harlem River[?] bypassing a very circuitous portion that was later filled in. Consequently, Marble Hill is physically connected to the borough of The Bronx.
Marble Hill is named for the large deposits of marble underlying it. The formation, known as the Inwood marble[?], was formerly quarried for building stone.
