Maquis (Star Trek)

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Maquis were a resistance movement made mostly of humans that fought Cardassian occupation of their worlds, after the treaty that ended the Federation-Cardassian war. The Maquis were wiped out by an alliance between the Dominion and the Cardassians.

It is not clear whether they were named after the French resistance to the Nazi occupation of France in World War II (see Maquis (WW2)), or the 18th century Corsican democracy movement (see Maquis (Corsica)[?]).
