Maquiladora

In Mexican Spanish, a maquiladora is a factory manufacturing products for a larger and usually foreign-owned company and generally employing cheap female labor. There are many thousands along the border with the United States in towns like Ciudad Juarez, which has recently become notorious for the serial murders of young female maquiladora workers.
