Maple Grove, Minnesota

Maple Grove is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 50,365.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 90.5 km² (35.0 mi²). 85.1 km² (32.9 mi²) of it is land and 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.95% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 50,365 people, 17,532 households, and 13,955 families residing in the city. The population density is 591.6/km² (1,532.3/mi²). There are 17,745 housing units at an average density of 208.4/km² (539.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.74% White, 1.05% African American, 0.24% Native American, 2.52% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 17,532 households out of which 46.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% are non-families. 15.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the city the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 34.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $76,111, and the median income for a family is $81,873. Males have a median income of $52,187 versus $37,021 for females. The per capita income for the city is $30,544. 1.4% of the population and 0.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.7% are under the age of 18 and 2.9% are 65 or older.
