Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin

Manitowish Waters is a town located in Vilas County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 646.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 94.4 km² (36.4 mi²). 78.6 km² (30.4 mi²) of it is land and 15.7 km² (6.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.69% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 646 people, 301 households, and 208 families residing in the town. The population density is 8.2/km² (21.3/mi²). There are 1,103 housing units at an average density of 14.0/km² (36.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.07% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 2.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 301 households out of which 19.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% are married couples living together, 2.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.56.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.1% under the age of 18, 2.8% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 29.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 51 years. For every 100 females there are 113.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $37,500, and the median income for a family is $49,375. Males have a median income of $36,518 versus $20,114 for females. The per capita income for the town is $21,042. 10.5% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.1% are under the age of 18 and 13.6% are 65 or older.
