Mämmilä

Redirected from Mammila

Mämmilä was a full-page comic strip of Finnish cartoonist Tarmo Koivisto.

Mämmilä is a small town, supposedly in Häme region and was originally modeled on the town of Orivesi[?]. Cartoon depicted various contemporary issues in Finnish life from various social changes to the coming of African refugees and membership of European Union. Town has numerous colorful characters from local political leaders and potentates to Varpu Viljanen (local dowser) and Mohammed al-Zomal (Somalian refugee).

In 2002 Tarmo Koivisto published a graphic novel WWW.MAMMILA.FI about how Internet and shady business practices come to Mämmilä. Whether it will remain the last one, only time will tell.
