Maldegem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Adegem[?], Maldegem proper and Middelburg[?]. On January 1st, 2000 Maldegem had a total population of 22,036 (11,067 males and 10,969 females). The total area is 95.94 km² which gives a population density of 229.69 inhabitants per km².
