Magee is a city located in Simpson County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,200.

Geography Magee is located at 31°52'22" North, 89°44'1" West (31.872684, -89.733699)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²). 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,200 people, 1,573 households, and 984 families residing in the city. The population density is 332.3/km² (860.5/mi²). There are 1,725 housing units at an average density of 136.5/km² (353.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 62.67% White, 33.88% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.31% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 3.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,573 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% are married couples living together, 18.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% are non-families. 33.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $20,779, and the median income for a family is $24,176. Males have a median income of $23,690 versus $16,767 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,257. 28.4% of the population and 24.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 42.9% are under the age of 18 and 17.0% are 65 or older.
