Maasmechelen

Maasmechelen is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1st, 2002 Maasmechelen had a total population of 35,751 (17,768 males and 17,983 females). The total area is 77.13 km² which gives a population density of 463.52 inhabitants per km².

Cultural events: One of the annual cultural events is the carnival-parade. People with masks are entertaining the visitors. carnival starts the 11th of november. The parade is the most important day for members of a carnival-association.

Sports: The region has delivered quite some sportpersonalities: Marc Steevens from Maasmechelen used to be the fastest white man (100 meters); Heidi Rakels from Maasmechelen was very good in judo-sport; Stefan Everts from Neeroeteren has been several times the worldchampion motocross and Kim Clijsters is the 3th best female tennisplayer of the world right now !

Music: Maasmechelen has some musical talents: Raffaele who often sings in the Italian language and is very popular in Belgium. One of the French singing Belgian artist, Axelle Red, is coming to perform in Maasmechelen soon.

Waist - garbage: The inhabitants of Maasmechelen have 2 containers: a green one for foodrests, grass and a grey container for non-recyclabe materials.
