Logan County, Oklahoma

Logan County is a county located in the U.S. State of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 33,924. Its county seat is Guthrie6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,940 km² (749 mi²). 1,928 km² (744 mi²) of it is land and 12 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 33,924 people, 12,389 households, and 8,994 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (46/mi²). There are 13,906 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 81.58% White, 11.02% African American, 2.90% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.20% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. 2.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,389 households out of which 33.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.20% are married couples living together, 9.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 23.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the county, the population is spread out with 25.50% under the age of 18, 12.00% from 18 to 24, 26.50% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $36,784, and the median income for a family is $44,340. Males have a median income of $31,345 versus $22,677 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,872. 12.90% of the population and 8.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.00% are under the age of 18 and 13.00% are 65 or older.
