Logan County, Colorado

Logan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of 2000, the population is 20,504. The county seat is Sterling.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,778 km² (1,845 mi²). 4,762 km² (1,839 mi²) of it is land and 16 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 20,504 people, 7,551 households, and 5,066 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (11/mi²). There are 8,424 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.65% White, 2.05% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.77% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 11.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,551 households out of which 31.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.80% are married couples living together, 8.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% are non-families. 28.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 10.80% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 21.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 112.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.60 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,724, and the median income for a family is $42,241. Males have a median income of $28,155 versus $21,110 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,721. 12.20% of the population and 9.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.40% are under the age of 18 and 10.90% are 65 or older.
