Logan County, Arkansas

Logan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2000, the population is 22,486. There are two county seats, Booneville and Paris.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,895 km² (732 mi²). 1,839 km² (710 mi²) of it is land and 56 km² (22 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.96% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 22,486 people, 8,693 households, and 6,302 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (32/mi²). There are 9,942 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (14/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.46% White, 1.05% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,693 households out of which 32.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 10.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.90% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $28,344, and the median income for a family is $33,732. Males have a median income of $24,472 versus $18,681 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,527. 15.40% of the population and 11.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.20% are under the age of 18 and 19.60% are 65 or older.
