Livingston Parish, Louisiana

Livingston Parish is a parish located in the U.S. State of Louisiana. As of 2000, the population is 91,814.

Geography The parish has a total area of 1,820 km2 (703 mi2). 1,678 km2 (648 mi2) of it is land and 142 km2 (55 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 7.80% water.

Demographics As of 2000, there are 91,814 people, 32,630 households, and 25,549 families residing in the parish. The population density is 55/km2 (142/mi2). There are 36,212 housing units at an average density of 22 persons/km2 (56 persons/mi2). The racial makeup of the parish is 94.35% White, 4.22% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 1.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 32,630 households out of which 41.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.10% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 21.70% are non-families. 18.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the parish the population is spread out with 29.50% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 31.50% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 8.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 98.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.50 males.

The median income for a household in the parish is $38,887, and the median income for a family is $44,071. Males have a median income of $36,508 versus $22,325 for females. The per capita income for the parish is $16,282. 11.40% of the population and 9.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.70% are under the age of 18 and 15.80% are 65 or older.
