Little Canada, Minnesota

Little Canada is a city located in Ramsey County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,771.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.6 km² (4.5 mi²). 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.51% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,771 people, 4,375 households, and 2,393 families residing in the city. The population density is 943.2/km² (2,445.8/mi²). There are 4,471 housing units at an average density of 431.6/km² (1,119.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 85.38% White, 4.20% African American, 0.58% Native American, 6.68% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 2.25% from two or more races. 2.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,375 households out of which 26.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.6% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.3% are non-families. 36.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $46,609, and the median income for a family is $61,082. Males have a median income of $41,205 versus $31,689 for females. The per capita income for the city is $25,624. 5.5% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.2% are under the age of 18 and 3.4% are 65 or older.
