The racial makeup of the county is 99.04% White, 0.06% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,664 households out of which 33.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.40% are married couples living together, 10.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.60% are non-families. 22.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
