Lilith Fair

Lilith Fair was a tour that featured female musicians that ran from 1997 to 1999.

Sarah McLachlan founded the tour and coined its name. She got Lilith from the legend that Lilith was Adam’s first wife and fair as a way to cultivate an image of beauty and equality. McLachlan got the idea for the tour by looking at Lollapalooza, a summer tour done entirely by men. Using this as a model, she thought this would be good to do a tour of all women using the same format. ([1] (http://surrender.e-vapor.net/live/lf))

At each Lilith Fair venue, one dollar for each ticket sold was given to a women’s charity in that community. However, Lilith Fair was criticized by some people for glorifying a pagan figure. ([2] (http://www.liberty.edu/chancellor/nlj/June1999/lilith.htm))
