Lebanon, South Dakota

Lebanon is a town located in Potter County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 86.

Geography Lebanon is located at 45°4'12" North, 99°46'15" West (45.069875, -99.770730)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 86 people, 39 households, and 28 families residing in the town. The population density is 62.7/km² (160.8/mi²). There are 54 housing units at an average density of 39.3/km² (100.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.84% White, 0.00% African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 39 households out of which 28.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 25.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.61.

In the town the population is spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 14.0% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 32.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 53 years. For every 100 females there are 104.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,625, and the median income for a family is $37,500. Males have a median income of $47,500 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,135. 24.3% of the population and 13.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 37.5% are under the age of 18 and 17.2% are 65 or older.
