Le Sueur County, Minnesota

Le Sueur County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 25,426. Its county seat is Le Center6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,227 km² (474 mi²). 1,162 km² (448 mi²) of it is land and 66 km² (25 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.35% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 25,426 people, 9,630 households, and 6,923 families residing in the county. The population density is 22/km² (57/mi²). There are 10,858 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (24/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.56% White, 0.15% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.02% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 3.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,630 households out of which 34.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.10% are non-families. 23.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.10.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.40% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 27.80% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 100.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $45,933, and the median income for a family is $53,000. Males have a median income of $34,196 versus $24,214 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,151. 6.90% of the population and 4.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.50% are under the age of 18 and 10.40% are 65 or older.
