Laramie County is a county located in the State of Wyoming. As of 2000, the population is 81,607. Its county seat is Cheyenne6.

History Laramie County was organized in 1867.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,961 km² (2,688 mi²). 6,957 km² (2,686 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.06% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 81,607 people, 31,927 households, and 21,614 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (30/mi²). There are 34,213 housing units at an average density of 5/km² (13/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 88.92% White, 2.60% African American, 0.85% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 4.00% from other races, and 2.57% from two or more races. 10.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,927 households out of which 33.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.90% are married couples living together, 9.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.30% are non-families. 27.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.80% under the age of 18, 9.60% from 18 to 24, 30.50% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 11.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 100.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $39,607, and the median income for a family is $46,536. Males have a median income of $31,644 versus $24,406 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,634. 9.10% of the population and 6.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.00% are under the age of 18 and 6.50% are 65 or older.
