Langley is a city located in Island County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 959.

Geography Langley is located at 48°2'13" North, 122°24'31" West (48.036922, -122.408500)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 959 people, 486 households, and 268 families residing in the city. The population density is 451.6/km² (1,165.9/mi²). There are 542 housing units at an average density of 255.2/km² (658.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.25% White, 0.31% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 2.09% from two or more races. 1.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 486 households out of which 24.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.7% are non-families. 39.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.97 and the average family size is 2.61.

In the city the population is spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 15.7% from 25 to 44, 35.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 76.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $34,792, and the median income for a family is $51,563. Males have a median income of $41,750 versus $30,125 for females. The per capita income for the city is $24,940. 10.6% of the population and 5.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.7% are under the age of 18 and 6.6% are 65 or older.
