Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,425 people, 1,835 households, and 1,154 families residing in the city. The population density is 446.1/km² (1,154.5/mi²). There are 1,995 housing units at an average density of 201.1/km² (520.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.61% White, 0.18% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.79% from two or more races. 1.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,835 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.98.
