Lake Montezuma, Arizona

Lake Montezuma is a town located in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,344.

Located near the Interstate 17 highway between Phoenix and Flagstaff, Lake Montezuma was named after Montezuma Castle[?], a cliff dwelling of the Sinagua[?] Indians, now a National Monument.

Geography Lake Montezuma is located at 34°38'25" North, 111°47'0" West (34.640283, -111.783377)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 31.0 km² (12.0 mi²). 31.0 km² (11.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.08% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,344 people, 1,471 households, and 938 families residing in the town. The population density is 108.0/km² (279.7/mi²). There are 1,666 housing units at an average density of 53.8/km² (139.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 92.58% White, 0.09% African American, 2.33% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.78% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. 7.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,471 households out of which 20.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.73.

In the town the population is spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $33,750, and the median income for a family is $36,864. Males have a median income of $22,365 versus $21,538 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,043. 9.1% of the population and 7.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.4% are under the age of 18 and 1.4% are 65 or older.
