Lacona, New York

Lacona is a village located in Oswego County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 590.

Geography Lacona is located at 43°38'38" North, 76°4'7" West (43.643791, -76.068562)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 590 people, 243 households, and 156 families residing in the village. The population density is 223.3/km² (576.7/mi²). There are 271 housing units at an average density of 102.6/km² (264.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.64% White, 0.17% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 243 households out of which 34.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.8% are married couples living together, 15.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.8% are non-families. 27.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.97.

In the village the population is spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $32,222, and the median income for a family is $41,111. Males have a median income of $37,500 versus $27,955 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,418. 24.6% of the population and 19.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 35.9% are under the age of 18 and 18.2% are 65 or older.
