La Paz, Bolivia

La Paz is the administrative capital city of Bolivia (the legal capital is Sucre). The full name of the city is La Paz de Ayacucho after a victory of Bolivia over Peru in the country's war for independence.

The city is situated at an altitude of 3600 m alongside the La Paz river. The city has between 700,000 and 800,000 inhabitants.

La Paz was founded at the site of an Inca village by Alonso de Mendoza[?] in 1548.
