Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,479 people, 551 households, and 360 families residing in the city. The population density is 419.9/km² (1,083.9/mi²). There are 657 housing units at an average density of 186.5/km² (481.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 70.11% White, 1.89% African American, 22.92% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 4.06% from two or more races. 2.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 551 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.0% are married couples living together, 16.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 31.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.19.
