Kleberg County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 31,549. Its county seat is Kingsville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,824 km² (1,090 mi²). 2,256 km² (871 mi²) of it is land and 568 km² (219 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 20.12% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 31,549 people, 10,896 households, and 7,681 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (36/mi²). There are 12,743 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 71.87% White, 3.70% African American, 0.61% Native American, 1.47% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 19.00% from other races, and 3.25% from two or more races. 65.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,896 households out of which 34.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.10% are married couples living together, 13.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.50% are non-families. 22.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.30.

In the county, the population is spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 15.70% from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44, 19.00% from 45 to 64, and 10.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 101.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $29,313, and the median income for a family is $33,055. Males have a median income of $31,179 versus $19,494 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,542. 26.70% of the population and 21.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 35.50% are under the age of 18 and 15.60% are 65 or older.
