King's Quest

King's Quest is an adventure game series made by the American computer game company Sierra. King's Quest I was released in 1984 and ran on DOS.

There have been eight King's Quest games released:

  • King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown
  • King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne
  • King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human
  • King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella
  • King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder!
  • King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow
  • King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride
  • King's Quest VIII: The Mask of Eternity

There are a number of websites giving plans for a ninth installment in the series (many just that, plans), but there is no official King's Quest IX.

Summary of the games

King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown: King Edward of Daventry is dying. If Sir Graham can find the three lost treasures of Daventry -- the magic mirror, the magic chest, and the magic shield -- he will become the next king.

King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne: King Graham sees a vision of a beautiful woman Valanice trapped in a tower. Graham journeys to the land of Kolyma, where he must find three keys before he can reach the tower.

King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human: Gwydion is a slave of the wizard Manannan. He plans to escape from the wizard. It turns out he'll also discover his real identity and save Daventry from a dragon.

King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella: Graham is suddenly sick. Princess Rosella is summoned through the magic mirror to the land of Tamir by the fairy Genesta. Somewhere in Tamir, there is a magic fruit that can save Graham. But Rosella soon gets involved in another conflict: Genesta herself is dying, thanks to the evil Lolotte.

King's Quest V: Absence makes the heart go yonder!: Graham is out walking when his castle, with his family inside, is whisked away by the wizard Mordack. Graham, with the help of the wizard Crispinophur and his owl Cedric, embarks on a journey to save his castle and his family.

King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow: Prince Alexander sails to the Land of the Green Isles in search of Princess Cassima, whom he met in Mordack's castle. A storm shipwrecks Alexander on of the islands. Alexander finds the Isles in political chaos. He must unravel the plot of the evil vizier.

King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride: Queen Valanice and Rosella find themselves drawn into the realm of Eldritch. Separated, each much persue her own course to help prevent the destruction of Eldritch by Malecia.

King's Quest VIII: The Mask of Eternity: The archon Lucreto destroys the Mask of Eternity, plunging the world into chaos. Connor must find the five pieces of the Mask and return them to their proper place.
